framework of high expectations.

I believe that success in the math classroom comes from the efforts of the student, teacher, and parents. I believe that if we all work together, we can make this the most successful year in math yet!
student expectations
- Come to class on time with a positive attitude and open mind about learning. You can and will learn math this year! Learning takes place in many forms in our classroom. Remember to have fun and learn something each and every day!
- Bring all of your materials each day to ensure that you can make the most out of each lesson. Set yourself up for success!
- Engage in the lesson/activity each day. Participate, ask questions, dig deeper…don’t just go through the motions.
- Commit to practicing each and every day, both in and outside of the classroom. The more you practice, the better you will become at ANYTHING…so apply that idea towards math. Remember that 20 – 30 minutes of practice each day will be more effective than 3 hours of “cramming” the night before.
- Be accountable for your learning. Don’t make excuses or take excuses. It’s okay to “not know” how to do something right away or get a problem wrong…it’s okay to make mistakes! But it’s not okay to stop there. View setbacks and mistakes as an opportunity for growth and allow yourself the chance to try again.
- Be proactive and seek help immediately. There is no limit on the number of questions you can ask…so ask away! Utilize in class time and extra help sessions to maximize your learning potential.
parent expectations
- Check ParentView (Synergy) and our class blog weekly. This will be the fastest way for you to monitor your child’s progress in my class.
- Encourage your child daily and ensure them that they can be successful in math, it may take a little bit…or a lot…of hard work, but they will get there.
- Monitor practice outside of the classroom. One of the main reasons students struggle is because they fail to complete practice problems on their own. Practice allows them to see where any gaps in their understanding may be.
- Let your child do the talking. It is very important that students learn how to advocate for themselves and take ownership of their learning experience. Please encourage your child to communicate with me early on!
Teacher expectations
- I will maintain a positive learning environment where students can ask questions, get feedback, and receive encouragement to support their mastery of the content.
- I will deliver content in a way that is organized, scaffolded for different levels of learning, and hopefully easily understood by all students.
- I will communicate to parents using Synergy, blog updates, and personal emails.
- I will give back assessments back in a timely manner and provide students opportunities to demonstrate additional learning.
- I will be available for extra help daily during class time and before school on any morning I do not have a meeting.
